Preparing Your Heart for Marriage: The Power of Prayer

Prayer changes things!

Have you ever felt unprepared for something big in life? It could be a new job, a big move, or a life-changing event like marriage. When it comes to preparing for marriage, it's easy to focus on the details—finding the right person, planning the wedding, or buying the house. But have you ever thought about preparing your heart?

I remember a time when I felt stuck. I always desired to be married, but nothing seemed to be happening. I had a mentor who took me under her wing. Every morning, for weeks, he prayed with me. We covered things like—trusting God’s timing, and preparing my heart to love and be loved in a godly way.

Looking back, I realise those prayers made a big difference. They didn’t just prepare me for marriage—they prepared me for a deeper relationship with God. By the time I met my husband, I was in a much better place emotionally, spiritually, and mentally.

Here’s what I learned from that season:

• Prayer aligns your heart with God’s plan – It’s not just about asking for a spouse, but about becoming the person God has called you to be.

• Healing is essential – Unresolved wounds can affect your future marriage. Let God heal you before you step into that season.

• Start small – Even just 5 minutes each day in prayer can shift your heart and mind.

If you’re in a season of waiting, don’t just sit and hope—pray and prepare. You never know what God is working on behind the scenes!
